It is estimated that 400 doctors die by suicide in the United States each year.
Sleep deprivation, the weight of crushing student loan debt, and the pressure to never make a mistake are just some of the reasons behind the suicide epidemic plaguing the medical community.
Instead of working resident doctors to death, DO NO HARM’s Care2 petition suggests that hospitals expand the number of people in their residency programs, reduce the number of hours worked each week by residents, and offer routine and confidential on-the-job psychological support.
But since there has been so much resistance to making these types of changes, the petition takes the fight to Congress.
Please sign the petition demanding that members of Congress pass legislation strictly regulating resident doctors' duty hours.
